The modern resort of La Plagne is a group of separate villages which all link up to form one of the largest skiing destinations in the world. Each location has its own merits and caters well for different budgets and varying skiing abilities.
The skiing area of La Plagne is enormous and caters brilliantly for every skiing ability. It is a great choice for beginners, with a large number of nursery slopes to practice on, along with excellent ski schools for tuition. As confidence grows, even the most novice of skier can enjoy some leisurely ambles along one of La Plagne’s 140 ‘Easy’ runs.
La Plagne is served well with an efficient interlinking set of 141 lifts – including 1 funicular, 10 cable cars, 4 gondolas, 66 chairlifts and 58 drag lifts. Wherever you choose to stay in La Plagne, you will be near to the speedy Vanoise Express cable car, which is located in Les Coches. This gives intermediate and advanced skiers a fast link to the nearby resort of ‘Les Arcs’ and the chance to access the massive Paradiski ski terrain. Covering 425kms of piste, this is one of the largest skiing areas in the World.
You are really spoilt for choice for nightlife in La Plagne and each village has its own nighttime hotspots. However, here are just a few of the many highlights:
‘La Tete Inn’ (Belle Plagne) is a great bar which uses old milk churns for seats and stays open until 4am. ‘The Spitting Feathers Bar’ (Plagne Bellecte) is an English style pub with themed nights and a sports screen. ‘Le Luna Bar ‘(Plagne Centre) has 4 bars, each with a different theme and is a great location for late night drinks. If it is a nightclub you are looking for, try ‘Oxygene’ (Montchavin) or ‘Galaxy’ (Champagny). Look out for the courtesy buses which are operated by some of the late night bars and clubs which will drop you back home to many of the Villages in La Plagne.
Restaurants are many and varied throughout all the villages, there are simply too many good ones to list. Whichever you choose, make sure you taste the traditional local fare of fondue and raclette, this is usually priced around €20 per person.
Those seeking the ultimate adrenaline rush will not want to miss riding on the Olympic Bobsleigh (La Plagne 1800). For those looking for something more relaxed, opt for the Cinema (Plagne Centre and Bellecte) which show English films regularly.
